From the Breakfast Table Free Newsletter of BnB Sure the most comprehensive policy for B&Bs and Guesthouses

OCTOBER 2008

The last of the big expos for 2008 is over. Hostex in Durban took place on 8, 9 and 10 September.  This is the first time that Hostex has been held in Durban and as usual BnB SURE was there. It seemed a little quieter than the Cape Town event but nonetheless successful. Now things slow down until early in the New Year when we once again get ourselves ready for INDABA 2009.

POLICY CHANGES

It’s that time of year again where we look at improvements to our policy and we are pleased to be able to advise you that the following changes have been made and come into effect from 1 November 2008.

CONTENTS SECTION

BILKING (not applicable to Contents section (excl Theft)) is increased to R20,000

PERSONAL EFFECTS OF PAYING GUESTS (not applicable to Contents section (excl Theft)) is increased to R25,000

TRAUMA COUNSELLING as a result of any event following violence or the threat of violence is increased to R2000 per person and R10,000 per event happening at the premises stated in the schedule.

DAMAGE BY LAUNDRY is a new extension added to the Contents section and reads as follows:

The company will indemnify the insured following loss or damage to any of the goods contained within the premises specified in the schedule caused as a result of the negligence of any recognised and registered laundry company used by the insured. The damage in terms of this extension is limited to an amount not exceeding R10,000 any one loss and R20,000 in any one twelve month period but excluding the first R1,000 of any such loss.

EMERGENCY RESCUE DAMAGE is another new extension added to the Contents section

The company will indemnify the insured in the event that it is necessary to break down a door or window in order to gain access to a room where it is reasonably assumed that a guest is in an emergency related situation caused either by a medical problem or a violent incident and keys are not available to open the door to such guest room.  This extension is limited to R10,000 any one loss.

BUILDINGS SECTION.

POWER SURGE is increased to R15,000

ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE EXTENSION

is increased to R15,000

TRAUMA COUNSELLING (not applicable to Description of Use (ii)) is amended to read.

The company will pay the cost of trauma counselling as a result of any event following violence or the threat of violence happening as a result of the driving of any vehicle insured by this policy but limited to R2000 any one person and R10000 any one event.

MEDICAL EXPENSES is increased to R3000 per injured occupant.

AND ANOTHER EXCITING ADDITION COMES ON TO THE POLICY ON 1 JANUARY 2009!

An endorsement noting these changes will be distributed next month.

CHECKING THE STATUS OF CLAIMS

We remind brokers that there is now no longer any need to send reminders to our branches to get the latest details on claims as this information can now be accessed via our website www.brokerfinder.co.za.  The claims information is updated daily and overnight.

Brokers wishing to register for this service should simply send a request to Rachel Mogodi at rachel@bnbsure.co.za and this will be done.  Once the Master User in a broker’s office is registered, that Master User may add or delete other users.

MEDICAL EVACUATION OF GUESTS

We have been amazed at the response to this section of the policy introduced late last year.  It is clear that B&B and guesthouse owners are concerned that they could face the situation of having a seriously ill guest and they need to evacuate that guest. Many policies have a “medical evacuation section” but in most cases this serves only to despatch an ambulance and the cost of that service remains the concern of the guest or even worse, the guesthouse owner.  The Medical Evacuation section of the BnB SURE policy pays for the costs of the ambulance service and also the cost of hospital admission provided there is sufficient cover purchased for this.  Premiums are very affordable at only R100 per month for cover of R75,000.

CHAMBERS ACCOMMODATION HOSPITALITY CONFERENCE

The end of October sees the third annual Chambers Accommodation hospitality conference to be held once again at the auditorium of the SA Reserve Bank in Pretoria. Numerous topics are covered over the three days of the conference covering virtually everything a guesthouse owner needs to know about the running of such an establishment.  For more details and registration visit www.cacct.co.za
